How To Create An Apple ID

Learn how to create an Apple ID in this Quick Guide Video.

Every iPhone or iPad owner needs one, and it’s easy to get. I’m talking of course about an Apple ID. It’s used for everything and links your device to all of its content in the cloud.

There are two options for your Apple ID. You can either get a free email account from Apple using the @me.com extension, or you can use an email address that you already have. If you would like my opinion on which option to choose, be sure to read my other post.

This Quick Guide Video is a little fast paced. I’m still honing my editing skills so I apologize. But hey, it’ll be on the internet forever, so feel free to watch it as many times as you need.

Getting an @me.com account on the iPhone or iPad

Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tap “Add Account”. On the next screen tap “iCloud”. Then tap “Get a Free Apple ID”.

On the next screen enter your location and date of birth and then tap “Next”. Tap “get a free iCloud email address” to select it. Under the EMAIL heading, enter what you would like your new email address to be (it’ll be with an @me.com extension).

Slide the screen down, enter your first and last name, and then choose a password. Under the SECURITY INFO heading, choose a security question and provide an answer. Tap “Next”.

The iCloud Terms of Service will appear. After reading them, if you agree, tap “Agree”. A pop up window will appear that you will have to tap “Agree” on as well.

Some of your iCloud settings will appear next. Choose which settings you would like to activate and tap “Save”.

Using an existing email address

Head over to the Apple ID website and click on “Create an Apple ID”. In the Apple ID box, enter the email address you would like to use. Then choose a password.

Select one of the many security questions and provide an answer. Then, below that, fill in your date of birth, name, and address information.

Next you’ll select your language preference. Below that you can choose whether or not to receive emails from Apple. Once decided, enter the CAPTCHA.

If you agree with all of Apple’s fine print, click the check box and then “Create Apple ID”.

You will receive a confirmation email. Open it and click the “Verify Now” link. You will be taken to a verification webpage where you have to enter your newly created Apple ID and Password to confirm. Click “Verify Address” and you’re all set.

Well I hope this helped answer any questions you have regarding how to create an Apple ID. Let me know what you think in the comments below, on Facebook, or on Twitter.

Happy iOSing,

Ryan

[Siri] Hello everyone. Thanks for tuning in to this Quick Guide Video from iDevice Mastery.

Here is your host, Ryan OBarr.

[Ryan} You’re a Rockstar, Siri. Thank you. Hey everyone. Ryan here with another Quick Guide Video from iDevice Mastery. You can find me over at www.iDeviceMastery.com.

In today’s Quick Guide Video I’m going to show you everything you need to know about setting up your Apple ID. There are two ways to do this. You can either get a free email address from Apple with the @me.com extension or you can set up your new Apple ID with an existing email address that you already have.

So let’s get started.

Ok. So like I mentioned, you’ve got two options. The first one is to get @me.com account. And that’s going to be done on the iPhone or iPad you bought. Or you can use a current email address such as Ryan@iDevice.com. And we will use the Apple ID website for that.

So let’s go into the iPad and get an @me.com account.

Go into the Settings, and then Mail, Contacts, Calendars and tap add account. On the next page you’re going to tap iCloud, then tap get a free Apple ID. Enter your location and date of birth and then tap Get a Free iCloud email address to select it. Then enter the email you’d like to have with the @me.com extension. Fill out your first name, last name, enter and verify a password, and then choose a security question and answer it. Read the Terms and Conditions and, if you agree, tap Agree. And then tap Agree again on the pop-up.

Choose the Settings you’d like to sync with the iCloud. Now do not use this slide as a guideline for what you should turn on. I have Find My iPad off because I already have a turned on under my other main account. So let’s jump right into using existing email address on the Apple ID website.

So you go to Google, type in “Apple ID”. Over at the right click Create an Apple ID and go ahead and fill out the form. It does have some guidelines that you can see that have popped up so make sure you fulfill all those requirements there. Get the password put in here. Again, they’ve got a lot of guidelines so make sure you complete all of them.

Then we are going to jump down to a security question. Then you’re going to select your date of birth and enter all your information. Select your language preference.

And then if you want to receive emails you can leave those checked. I do not so
I’m not going to. Go ahead and enter the CAPTCHA. Click the checkbox. And then Create Apple ID.

This is the page it sends you to. And then you’re going to receive an
e-mail that looks similar to this. When you get this email click the Verify Now.

And it’ll send you to this web page here. And all you have to do is sign in to verify. Enter the new Apple ID just created and the new password, click verify address, and there you go. Email Address Verified and you’re all set.

Well, that’s it for this Quick Guide Video episode. Thanks again for watching.
